a poem about the cease fire May 2021

Something I wrote tonight:

the ceasefire came into effect a few days ago.

the panic attacks did not

cease with the

ceasefire.

the dangerous signs my body has been insistently

sending me did not

cease with the

ceasefire.

I am told by friends with

good intentions:

for shortness of breath –

take deep breaths.

to quiet your mind –

disconnect, ground yourself.

to recharge –

rest, listen to classical music

go for a walk in nature.

to my friends with

good intentions,

I say:

You

take a deep breath, pause,

and slowly

read each word,

because this is what your

status quo means

for us:

injustice

arbitrary arrests

occupation

blockade

apartheid

institutionalized racism

hatred

political persecution

police brutality

lack of safety

—————————-

is that words enough for you?

because if not –

I have more.

so while you

go back to your

status quo and

safety,

I ignore the dangerous signs

my body is sending me –

for now.

Because my body

is no longer

interested in your

good old

status quo.

شيء كتبته الليلة:

دخل وقف إطلاق النار حيز التنفيذ قبل أيام قليلة.

نوبات الهلع لم تتوقف.

لم تتوقف مع وقف إطلاق النار.

الإشارات الخطيرة التي يرسلها لي جسدي بإصرار

لم تتوقف مع وقف إطلاق النار.

أصدقائي، أصحاب النوايا الحسنة

إقترحوا عليّ:

لمواجهة ضيق التنفس –

خذي نفساً عميقاً

لتهدئة أفكاركِ –

إسترخي، إستمعي الى الموسيقى الكلاسيكية

لإستعادة طاقاتكِ –

أخرجي لنزهة في الطبيعة.

لأصدقائي حسني النوايا،

أقول:

توقفوا، خذوا نفساً عميقاً،

وببطئ

إقرؤوا كل كلمة،

لأن الوضع القائم الذي تعنوه،

لنا، يعني:

ظلم

إعتقالات تعسفية

إحتلال

حصار

تمييز عنصري

أبرتهايد

كراهية

ملاحقات سياسية

عنف شرطي

غياب الأمان

هل تكفيكم هذه الكلمات؟

وإن لم تكفي،

لدي المزيد.

وعند عودتكم لوضعكم القائم

الآمن

أُواصل تجاهل إشارات الخطر

التي يستمر جسدي بإرسالها لي،

لأن جسدي

لم يعد

مهتم

بالوضع القائم

الرائع.
